Start with the sofa
Record overall width, height, and depth. Then measure the body with removable legs, cushions, or feet taken off only if the maker intended them to be removable. Photograph the sofa from the front, side, and back so the pickup team can see its condition and shape.
Measure the whole route
Check the narrowest doorway, hall width, elevator opening, stair width, landing depth, and any tight corner. For each opening, note both width and height. A wide room does not help if the final doorway is too narrow.
Condition matters too
Receiving organizations commonly look for furniture that is clean, stable, and free of tears, heavy stains, odors, pests, and major pet damage. Ask about current acceptance before assuming a sofa can be donated.
A quick pickup checklist
Remove personal items from cushions; vacuum loose debris; photograph condition; measure the sofa; measure doors and turns; reserve the elevator if required; clear the walking path; keep pets in another room.
