Confirm acceptance first
Acceptance policies differ. Goodwill Dallas lists small appliances among accepted items but excludes large appliances, while Dallas Habitat ReStore lists appliances among items it may accept. The receiving organization makes the final decision.
Empty and clean the appliance
Remove food, water, lint, and loose parts. Wipe surfaces and secure shelves or trays so they do not shift. Keep manuals and compatible accessories together when available.
Handle utilities safely
Use a qualified person when disconnecting gas, hard-wired power, or water lines is outside your experience. Pickup crews should not arrive to find an appliance still connected.
Information to have ready
Share the appliance type, approximate age, working status, dimensions, floor level, stair count, and distance to parking. Photographs help identify door clearance and condition questions early.
Ready to describe the pickup?
Gather photographs, dimensions, condition notes, and access details before you call.
